Alice Carrington Foultz

The Project

Alice Carrington Foultz is one of a kind. In other words, she can be difficult to describe, but we’ll do our best. She’s a world-renowned art curator, responsible for art collections like the Spurs’ display at the AT&T Center in San Antonio. Her services include more than just curation, though — broadening to installation, events, consultation, brokering and more.

Ultimately, Alice is a visionary, helping individuals and businesses find a new and deeper appreciation for the arts. She approached us to create her collateral materials, including business cards, letterheads and more. We worked closely with Alice and her team to execute materials as unique as her personal brand.

The Problem

The “problems” presented with Alice’s project are probably better referred to as challenges, or even opportunities. Because she has an artistic mind and vision, there were no ideas off the table for her materials.

She has a unique personality, and her collateral needed to follow suit. But, more than that, Alice works with some of the most affluent, well-connected people in the world. Her business deals with elite business people and socialites around the world, so her printed materials needed to appeal to people who are innately hard to impress — and also be worthy of the substantial investment she was making in our services.

The Solution

Starting with paper selection, she had very specific color preferences, but we were able to find a paper stock that matched her personal brand exactly. For her business card, this meant we could save time and cost by not needing to print foundational colors.

But, when we did need to print her colors, we knew we needed to be hyper-accurate with color, so we used a 4/4 +1 method to hone in on her brand exactly. We used levels of intentionality normally only reserved for major brands. Using offset techniques blended with digital using a clear ink, we were able to achieve a stunning gloss on the business cards.

It didn’t stop at color, though. We printed a custom envelope specifically for her business card, testing several different prototypes to ensure an enjoyable user experience. For her #10 envelope, we custom printed the design, cutting to fit, which allowed us to print on all sides for a more custom, intentional look.

The Outcome

Ultimately, just the fact that these tangible materials exist in a digitally driven world is a win for us. Along with Alice, we dreamed big for this project and used new techniques to create something wholly unique. The result is a high-end experience for Alice’s clients, an experience that matches her taste and personality perfectly. It’s safe to say that Alice—and we—were more than pleased with the result.
